Studies on the Changes of Serum Lipids in Korean Diabetic Patients

Abstract
Serum lipids level and lipoprotein patterns were studied in 70 normal Koreans and 314 Korean diabetic patients to observe the effects of age, blood sugar level, duration of diabetes, vascular corrplications, body weight, family history and treatment for exce¢¥--lent control on serum lipids and lipoprotein patterns.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) The mean values of serum lipids except phospholipid in Korean diabetic patients, which were 209.047.9mg% for cholesterol, 177.3-`-42.6mg% for phospholipid, 161. 895. Img% for triglyceride and 604.61418mg,o for total lipid were higher- significantly than the mean values in normal Korean, which were 182.245. 4mV/o, 173.7-40.9mg%/, 118.930. 2mg% and 520. 3149. 3mg % respectively.
2) The mean values of serum lipoprotein patterns in Korean diabetic patients, which were 38.410.70% for a-lipoprotein, 14.76.9a for pre-Q-lipoprotein and 46.7:1:10.4% for (-lipoprotein were not different from the mean values in normal Korean, which were 10.98.40, 12.4---7.95% and 46.97.2% respectively.
3) The serum lipids levels of Korean diabetic patients were influenced by age, blood sugar level, duration of diabetes, body weight and vascular complications, but not by family history and treatment methods for excellent control of diabetes.
4) In diabetic patients with higher blood sugar Ievel or overweight, there was decrease in a-lipoprotein fraction and increase in pre-~ -lipoprotein, though no significant difference in serum lipoprotein patterns were present.
